A lot of tourists think Phuket is dangerous because of the current political crisis in Bangkok. It is truely safe here. The reason I am writing this because Thailand's tourist industry is suffering right now. Tourists cancel thier trips to Phuket when it was a state of emergency last month and there is now the news of political demonstrations and violence in Bangkok. The local economy from Thai families to small businesses suffer if you decide not to come to Phuket. Thai families are unable to earn thier living for their families and many of small Thai businesses operate on very small margins.
Travelling to Phuket is still safe though there was some political unrests with two people being killed in Bangkok last week. The political demonstrations only appear at Government House and at the park nearby while life absolutely goes on as normal in other parts of Bangkok. Just like when we had a military coup two years ago, life went on as normal. The day after the coup, tourists was sill busy with thier holidays in all parts of Thailand.
If you're a tourist coming to Phuket, you should still come. Life in Phuket has been exactly no different and weather has been virtually windless, hot, mostly sunny these days. There is some dark clouds but no more than a few drops of rain, a wonderful tropical weather, better than last year really.
